The AKD Holiday Table Inspiration

The Turkey was stuffed and the last of the green bean casserole has been finished. Those decorative gourds certainly served their purpose, but now it's time to switch gears because you have less than three weeks until Christmas! Ready (for those holiday parties?), Set (that beautiful table!), Go!

There is a certain moment at the San Francisco Flower Mart every year where the scent of evergreen and paperwhite narcissus is overwhelmingly Holiday. The amaryllis is more beautiful than ever, lady apples seem to catch your eye first thing in the morning, and my friends over at Pacific Coast Evergreen are working day and night--knee-deep in holiday greenery--to make sure that every 48'' wreath is absolute perfection. The hustle is quite a sight to see!

The holidays can be a florist's busiest time of year, so it's important to stay inspired, creative, calm, and remember what this season is all about: good food, good friends, family, and beautiful parties that you'll never forget!  It's also incredibly important to just have fun with your holiday decor. The AKD motto is to first and foremost have fun and love your work, and the holidays should be no exception.

This year AKD is inspired by Simple Elegance at the holiday table. Letting a simple evergreen or magnolia garland be the rockstar of your table allows for a clean and festive look. Adding some gold mercury glass votives and pillar candles will give your table an intimate ambiance without breaking the bank. Bonus: gold mercury glass votives and pillar candles aren't just holiday decor, you can use them season after season to brighten up any table for any occasion. Need a DIY idea? Just in case you don't have pillar candles, you can spray paint empty wine bottles gold, and use them as candle holders!

I thoroughly enjoy the events where there are beautiful things anywhere your guests look, and adding small accents on a sideboard or coffee table can truly show off your inner Martha. Consider holiday bulbs like amaryllis or paperwhites in a festive cachepot or antique teapot for an added elegance, or a bowl of lady apples in a footed container can give your coffee table that extra something.

Looking for something to show your guests you appreciate and love them? Adding blankets to the back of each seat at your holiday table acts as a party favor as well as a way to give your party an extra cozy feeling. Yule logs, mulled wine, and cozy blankets all go hand in hand at the AKD Table! To cheer up your holiday beverages, adding whole cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise is a perfect way to give mulled wine or hot apple cider an extra special accent.  Put it in a fancy cocktail glass, and voila! You are covered.

Throwing a good holiday party shouldn't overwhelm. Stay inspired by simplicity this year, pay attention to the small, beautiful things that are provided directly by Mother Nature herself, and smile a little more just because and I promise this holiday season won't disappoint.

Remember that you can learn how to make your own 6' garland by taking this Fullosophie class taught by yours truly at the AKD Clubhouse THIS Sunday, December 7! It'll be a great time for you and I to get to know each other over a festive adult beverage and kick off this holiday season the right way!
